Understanding TV Wall Mount Installation for Fireplace
Importance of Proper Installation
When it comes to TV wall mount installation for a fireplace, it’s crucial to understand the importance of proper installation. This isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s also about safety and functionality. A poorly fitted wall mount can pose a risk to the TV, your property, and even your family.
Moreover, correct installation ensures that the TV is at an ideal viewing angle. Watching a TV that is poorly angled can lead to discomfort and even strain on your neck and eyes. Therefore, a good setup contributes to an improved viewing experience.
Factors to Consider When Mounting a TV above a Fireplace
There are several factors to consider when planning for a fireplace TV mount. These include the heat from the fireplace, the height and angle of the TV, the type of wall, and the type of mount.
Heat: Heat is a crucial factor when installing a TV above a fireplace. Excessive heat can damage your TV, reducing its lifespan. Therefore, it’s essential to ensure that the heat from your fireplace doesn’t directly reach your TV.
Height and Angle: The height and angle of your TV can significantly affect your viewing experience. Ideally, the TV should be at eye level when you’re seated. If it’s too high, you might need a tilt mount to adjust the viewing angle.
Type of Wall: Different wall materials require different installation methods. For instance, brick or stone walls may require special drilling techniques and tools.
Type of Mount: There are several types of TV mounts, including fixed, tilt, and full-motion mounts. Your choice depends on your requirements and preferences.
Benefits of Professional Installation
While DIY might seem like a tempting option to save costs, hiring professional TV installers offers numerous benefits.
Expertise and Experience: Professional TV installers have the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to handle any type of installation. They understand the best practices and can avoid common mistakes that can lead to damage or improper installation.
Safety: Installing a TV wall mount requires handling heavy equipment, drilling into walls, and managing electrical wiring. Professionals are experienced in performing these tasks safely.
Time-Saving: Hiring professionals can save you a significant amount of time. They can quickly and efficiently mount your TV, allowing you to enjoy your new setup without delay.

Questions we get asked
Fireplace TV Mounting Questions
The questions we get asked most on this one. If yours isn’t here, just ask us.
Is it safe to mount a TV above a fireplace?
Yes, when the screen sits above the mantel so the shelf deflects the rising heat, and when the fixing goes into real structure. The two things that make it unsafe are mounting into the decorative surround rather than the wall behind it, and ignoring how hot the space directly above a firebox gets.
How much does it cost to mount a TV above a fireplace?
A metal mount above a fireplace starts at $399.99. Marble, stone and under-cabinet surrounds are quoted directly once we have seen a photo, because those need different anchors and take considerably longer than drywall.
Will the TV be too high above a fireplace?
It is the most common problem with fireplace installs, and the mantel usually sets the floor on how low the screen can go. A tilting or pull-down mount buys back some of the angle by facing the screen down towards the seating. We check the height from where you sit before drilling, and we will tell you if the wall simply puts it too high to be comfortable.
Can you mount a TV on a stone or marble fireplace?
Yes, but we quote it on a photo first. Stone and marble need specific anchors and careful drilling, and a cracked surround is not something that can be patched invisibly. It is the one situation where we would rather spend time planning than improvising on site.
Where do the cables go on a fireplace install?
Around the firebox, never through the space directly above it. On a drywall chase we can route in-wall and bring the cables out below the mantel. Where the surround is solid, a paintable raceway follows the line of the stonework and disappears once it is coloured in.
Will the heat from the fireplace damage the TV?
Not if the mantel is doing its job and there is proper clearance above it. What causes damage is a screen sitting in the direct heat plume with no shelf between it and the firebox. We check the clearance on site and will say if the arrangement is not one we would put a television into.
