What moves the number is the size of the screen, what the wall is made of, and where the TV needs to sit. Marble, stone, under-cabinet and above-fireplace jobs take longer and need different anchors, so we quote those directly.

For a TV installation that means the two jobs we see most are not variations on each other. A detached house usually offers a choice of walls and a straightforward stud line. Old Oakville and Bronte are the lakeside villages the town grew out of. Glen Abbey, River Oaks and Joshua Creek came with the later waves, inland from the lake and newer than either village. There is a lot of townhouse in the newer parts. Each wave of building tends to bring its own default wall type with it, often the fastest way to guess what we’ll find before we even arrive.

Larger homes and finished feature walls
A lot of Oakville work involves bigger rooms and walls that have already been finished to a standard nobody wants disturbed. Panelling, built-in cabinetry and millwork all change where a bracket can go, so the mount gets planned around the joinery rather than the other way round.

Masonry isn't a problem in itself — it just needs a hammer drill and anchors rated for the screen rather than wood screws and hope. A party wall between older attached homes near the lake is one more place we check by hand before assuming it matches the rest of the house.

Condos and commercial rooms
Condo perimeter walls are usually concrete, which is the most secure thing you can mount to. The slower part is the building: many require a certificate of insurance on file and a booked service elevator before a contractor comes up.
In-wall cable runs often aren't possible in concrete, so a slim painted channel does the job instead. For offices and meeting rooms we handle display and monitor installation the same way. Interior walls inside the same unit are frequently a different material again, so we don't assume the whole space behaves like the perimeter.

Is the wall behind my media wall wood or steel?
