How do you get a signal out to a detached building?
Getting the picture out to a coach house or a barn is usually more about the run than the wall itself.

Does the signal have to run overhead or underground?
Depends what’s already there. If a conduit or a buried run already exists between the buildings, we use it; if not, we’ll talk through the realistic options before quoting anything.

What if there’s no power out there yet?
That’s a conversation for an electrician before it’s one for us — we mount and wire the TV end, but we won’t run new power circuits. Tell us what exists and we’ll plan the AV side around it.

Does a detached building change the wall itself?
Sometimes — a coach house or a converted barn can have anything from stud-and-drywall to exposed block. We confirm it on site; it doesn't necessarily match the main house.
Original plaster on estate and village homes
Will mounting into original plaster take longer than a standard wall?
A little, though it’s built into how we plan the visit rather than something that surprises us on site.

How do you find the studs without damaging the plaster?
By hand, mostly — tapping and light probing rather than relying on a scanner, which struggles once lath is involved. It takes longer than a subdivision wall, but it keeps the hole count down.

Does a smaller hole still hold the bracket properly?
Yes, when it’s placed on real structure — the anchor does the work, not the size of the hole. We’d rather drill twice than force one oversized hole through old lath.

What if the plaster hides something unexpected, like an old chimney chase or a filled-in doorway?
It happens more than people expect on older King properties. We stop, explain what we’ve found, and adjust the plan rather than drilling through it and hoping.
Screens sized for bigger rooms
Does a wall need anything extra to carry a 75-inch-plus TV?
The screen’s weight matters more than its width, so the check starts with what the bracket and the wall can hold, not the box size.

How do you confirm the wall can take the weight?
We locate real structure and check it’s sound before the bracket goes anywhere near it — a screen this size isn’t something you want resting on a guess.

Is the bracket rated differently at that size?
Yes — full-motion arms in particular have a maximum weight and screen size, and hardware sized for a 55-inch TV isn’t rated for an 85-inch one.

Does the room need to be bigger, or just the wall?
Both get checked, but for a different reason — the wall for the weight, the room for viewing distance. A screen comfortably sized for a small den can be too close in a smaller room out here, so we talk through the seating before confirming the size fits.
Mounting a 65-Inch TV or Larger
Screens from about 65 inches up go easier with two sets of hands, so we’ll usually ask you to help lift the panel onto the bracket once it’s mounted — a few seconds of your time that keeps a second-technician fee off the invoice. On some of King’s older village houses, the box itself is the harder part of the job — a narrow front door or a turn partway up an old staircase can matter more than anything happening at the wall.

What moves the number is the size of the screen, what the wall is made of, and where the TV needs to sit. Marble, stone, under-cabinet and above-fireplace jobs take longer and need different anchors, so we quote those directly.

King is houses on every scale, from a village street to a place out on acreage — and a fair few of them want the screen going over a stone fireplace.

Three villages with a lot of countryside around them, and Kettleby smaller again. The further out you go, the more likely the room has a stone or masonry fireplace at the centre of it — and that is usually exactly where the screen is wanted. Each village has its own mix of older and newer streets, so we don’t assume the wall type from the address alone.

Bigger properties, longer runs
Detached houses on larger lots tend to mean longer cable routes and more distance between the screen and wherever the equipment lives. Worth mentioning when you send photos, because it changes what we bring rather than what we charge, and it can affect how the wire concealment gets routed.

Wall construction varies widely, so the first job is finding out what's behind the finish. On a property with an addition, that can mean two different wall types a few feet apart.

Stone, masonry and fireplace walls
Stone and masonry surrounds are common and entirely mountable — hammer drill, masonry bit, and sleeve or wedge anchors rated for the screen.
Heat and mantel depth matter more than the material does. If a position would put the screen too high or too near the firebox, we'll say so before committing to it, and we'll suggest the framed wall beside the surround if that's the better option.

Renovated village homes mix vintages
A lot of King City, Nobleton and Schomberg houses have been added onto or updated over the decades, so the same building can have older plaster in the original rooms and plain drywall in an addition a few feet away.

Is a stone chimney breast strong enough to hold a TV?
Generally, yes — stone and masonry are some of the strongest material we mount into, using a hammer drill with sleeve or wedge anchors set well into the mass. Rough or uneven stone won't seat a bracket flat on its own, so we shim it level rather than pulling it tight against the high points.
The old part of our house still has plaster walls — is that a problem?
Not for us, though it changes the approach. Plaster and lath sit over framing that predates any standard stud spacing, and stud finders read it poorly, so we confirm everything by hand and keep the number of holes down — plaster patches far less cleanly than drywall.
Can a 75-inch TV go up without wrecking the wall?
Yes, and the wall isn't usually the limiting factor once we've confirmed what's behind it. What changes at that size is handling — we'll generally ask for a hand lifting the panel onto the bracket, and on the largest screens we sometimes bring a second installer regardless, which we'll tell you at booking rather than on the doorstep.
Can wires be hidden going into a stone wall?
Not inside the stone itself — nothing can be chased through solid masonry without real structural work. What we do instead is a slim channel, painted to match, which reads as deliberate rather than patched once it's finished.
Will you install a Samsung Frame TV over a fireplace?
Yes, provided the heat and mantel clearance work — we check both first. The Frame sits close to flush, so position has to be right immediately; we plan the One Connect route before any anchor goes into the stone or the wall beside it.
Do you supply the mounting bracket, or do we need our own?
