Rooms with more window than wall
When a room is mostly glass, the layout picks the spot, not you.
A sunroom or a window-heavy addition often leaves one narrow stretch of solid wall to work with, and it's rarely exactly where you'd choose if the room were square.

Direct sun through that much glass can wash out a screen facing the wrong way, so we look at where the light falls through the day before settling on a spot, not just where the wall happens to be.

Pine board over open framing isn't the structure itself
Tongue-and-groove pine is a finish, not the thing holding it up, so we locate the actual rafter or blocking behind the board rather than trust a screw into pine alone to carry the weight.

Exposed beams can rule out the obvious spot
A finished collar tie or exposed beam that people don't want drilled through for the look of the room sometimes pushes the mount sideways off centre rather than straight up the wall, which changes the whole layout of the seating.

The seat still makes the final call on height
Once we know where the structure and the beams allow a fixing, we set the actual height from where you sit, not from how much wall is available above the sofa.
Power and signal to a detached building
Getting a screen into the bunkie is an electrical question before it's a mounting one.
A detached building rarely has the same wiring behind the wall as the main house, and that's usually the first thing worth checking, not the last.

The circuit out there wasn't always built for this
A bunkie or boathouse outlet is sometimes on a lighter circuit that was only ever meant for a lamp, so we check what it can carry before adding a TV, a soundbar and whatever else ends up plugged in beside it.

Signal has to travel between structures properly
Feeding a bunkie or boathouse the same source as the main cottage means a cable run planned between the two buildings, not strung along the ground where it'll get damaged, tripped over, or chewed through by winter.

The main cottage wall and the outbuilding wall rarely share the same construction or the same power supply, so we treat each as its own job rather than assume what worked in one applies to the other.
Mounting a 65-Inch TV or Larger
Above roughly 65 inches, the job gets easier with a second pair of hands on the panel, so we'll typically ask you to help seat the screen onto the bracket for the few seconds that takes. It's quicker than booking a second technician, and it keeps that charge off your bill. Certain installs need two of us regardless of screen size, and a large panel headed out to a bunkie or boathouse is one of them — getting it down the lane and across the property in one piece takes a second set of hands well before it ever reaches a wall.

What Changes When a TV Goes on a Georgina Cottage Wall?
A lakefront room can look finished while the structure behind it tells a much older story.
What's behind the panelling?
Panelling is a finish, not the structure that carries a television. In a converted cottage it may cover studs, added insulation, older boards or several renovation layers. We establish what is there before choosing an anchor. That avoids an installation that looks fine on day one and slowly works loose afterward.
Can the wires be hidden completely?
Sometimes a framed wall gives us a clean internal route for low-voltage cables. Other times the insulation, masonry or renovation history behind it would mean more disruption than it's worth, and a slim paintable channel is honestly the better call even though it sits on the surface.
How do we settle on the right height?
We set the screen from the seat you use, the view through the room and any mantel, cabinet or window below it. A waterfront room often has more than one view competing for the wall. The best spot is the one that works for normal evenings, not only for the first photo after the TV goes up.

What moves the number is the size of the screen, what the wall is made of, and where the TV needs to sit. Marble, stone, under-cabinet and above-fireplace jobs take longer and need different anchors, so we quote those directly.

That means panelling over studs, added insulation, and framing that follows no modern rule. We check physically before drilling rather than trusting a scanner on a wall that has been rebuilt in layers.

Year-round homes and newer builds
The permanent housing stock is mostly drywall over wood framing, which is the friendliest surface to mount on and lets cable run inside the wall.
Newer builds add engineered lumber and occasional steel studs, so bracket position still gets confirmed by hand.

Mounting a TV on an uneven stone fireplace comes down to bearing. Rough stone rarely offers a flat seat, so the plate gets packed behind the high points and set level rather than dragged tight to the face. Otherwise it works loose.

Will the wiring be out of sight, or just tidied?
